A little bit of fun!!!!

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la Casa.''Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'A student asked,

'What gender is 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into twoGroups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2 The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourselfSpending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
(THIS GETS BETTER!)

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.The women won.

What do you think guys???
This is for all my smart women students ...and for my two male students who have a great sense of humor!!!

(This is a contribution from my New Zealand dad. Thanks!!!)

  1. mmm… I almost never laugh at this kind of stuff. I don’t really agree with the descriptions women and men in this Spanish class gave of each other. They are too generalising. I know that some men are nice to me just because they think they can get something (you know what), but I know many other men who help me without any condition. I also know many women whose mates don’t need to buy fashion accessories to make the relationship last, but, unfortunately, I’ve heard of some girls who don’t break up with their couples because they buy expensive gifts.

    What I really want to say is that I don’t like this kind of humour because I find it “stereotyping” and that is why I can’t take it as an innocent joke. Stereotypes help establish ideas that remain centuries and centuries in our heads, and that’s not funny at all because people who fall outside certain categories is left aside by big majorities.

    Sorry!! I can’t help myself!!! Hihihi.

  2. Well I think it was funny! I've never thought if it had to be "la computadora" or "el computador" but I always say "la computadora".
    I think the best option is "la computadora" because as computers, women can do many things at the same time (and not only house chores!).
    It is true that women make mistakes...but who said that computers are perfect?
    I love being a WOMAN!

  3. jajaja this is very funny!!! definitely, we, women, are computers because we are intelligent and can do different things at the same time.
    you know? my dad cannot buy clothes by himself, so my mother is the one who buys all his clothes. I can´t believe it!! what would men do without us? I am not saying we are perfect, but....
    see you soon!! candela

  4. Well, nice choice!It's a very funny joke. Women can do many things at the same time while men always need our help to solve his problems. I remember I was at high school working with an important english project when all of a sudden one of my mates (a man, of course)ask me to him with his mathematics homework. So, while I was finishing my project, I told him how to solve those mathematics problems....

    Here, we can clearly see that men ALWAYS need our help. We,women,are far more intelligent than men. At least, that's what I think... Omar and Nacho don't take it to heart...jajaja

    see you guys!!

  8. Cintia, it seems to me that men need our help and we need theirs also sometimes. After all, there are things women don't like to do! je je! It's just so healthy, convenient and positive we are all different.

  9. Hi!!! Very, very funny!!! I love this kind of joke!!!
    For me, the correct answer is "la computadora"... of course. Why? Because women can do everything without men´s help, we mature much faster than men and we can admit making a mistake. Moreover, women tend to communicate more effectively than men. So, I can say that they need our intelligence as well as our company.
    I agree with Cande: I´m not saying that we are perfect, but...
    See you... Luci!!!

  10. Hi! To add some counterweight to this nonsensical feminism, I have to point out the fact that I (a man) have been asked for help by women many times... at times by the same classmates who are saying that men can't do anything by themselves... Alzheimer's disease anyone? =)
    So, why don't we realize we are all interdependant and stop the "isms" madness?
    And Gigi I'm right there with you on this one :P

  11. jajaja stop arguing peoplee!! Men and women need each other, it was always like that! Mary...I also love being a woman! and Gigi...I think you have a point there, but I have to admit this kind of stuff makes me laugh. Besides it's very funny to read all the comments men and women make concerning this topic...they behave like children!!!
    love and peace people!!!
    see us...Belu

  12. Nacho, I can´t believe we agree on this one!!! haha.

    Anyway, taking into account the little I know about feminism, I need to tell you that it has nothing to do with the idea that women are better than men, that's sexism.

    Ok. gone!!

    I hope to see you soon!!!! I miss classes! :( Really! It's great to be with you all!!

  13. Yes, it´s really amazing how women are so closely related to computers!!! Women can do lots of stuff at the same time that whenever men want to imitate us they just can´t and only at that point they accept our tremendous effort to cope with so many thing all together!!! Men can never be compared with the great quantity of work computers do because they have, in most of the cases, the exact excuse for leaving some for the following day!!! jajaja I just love doing all that I can possibly do at the same time!
    See u all soon!
    Kisses.

  15. Lucy, we are by no means perfect and it may be we try too hard sometimes!! Wouldn't it be easier to ask a man for help sometimes? We may even like it! je je

  16. Ignacio, I have the feeling that culture has silenced us, women, for so long that now that we have the freedom to speak, we've gone to the other extreme. It may take us a while to find a middle course. However, it's good to know that as a gender, we are capable and no less than men... only different! Let's celebrate differences!!

  17. Good for you Belen, tha pacifier!!!!
    I totally agree with you: men and women need each other! But it's funny, as you say, to read about the silly things we sometimes believe in.

  18. Bibi, so you are the energetic type!!! Good for you. However, do you take time for yourself? See you soon!

  19. I think that we can do a lot of things at the same time because it is something we learn from culture. We are not considered "complete" women if we don't have any children, for example. And if you want to study and to be a mother at the sme time, you'll still have to take control of domestic affairs.

    On the other hand, I want to share with you something similar to what belu said and liliana agreed with. I read an article in which a woman from Afganistan talked about the women's terrible situation in that country. There she said that society is like a bird which has a "feminine" wing and a "masculine" wing, and if one of those wings was hurt, the bird wouldn't manage to fly succesfully.

    What do you think of it??

  20. I've just read it Gigi. I am speechless. I believe we don't have the least idea of what these women, and so many others around the world, go through. It's really touching just to think of all that horror and at the same time inspiring to know that there are women, like Malalai Joya, who risk everything over and over again claiming for justice and equality. Of course I agree with her: society is made up of men and women and we should be treated equally. It is my belief that no gender is better than the other, we are gladly enough, DIFFERENT! It's taken many many years of suffering and will probably take many more for humanity to understand that discrimination of any kind will never lead us to any good, only to hatred and destruction. Many times I wonder what we have leant since the times of the coverns! By the way, I got your information about the "ciclo de cine debate". It sounds great and I love taking part in these type of activities. I'll make a point of going if I can manage my too-busy-for-my-taste life. See you on Monday!
