In As good as it gets we've seen one of the characters suffers from an obsessive-compulsive disorder. Now let's have a look at fears and phobias. Read the article you can find in the following page:

It includes several parts and you must read the whole of it (up to overcoming phobias).

* Fears or phobias * Causes of phobias * Emotional states * Physical symptoms

Hand in your paper to me in the class.

2- Write about your personal experience concerning the topic. Publish your comment on the blog.

  1. Well... when I was a little child I was chased by dogs a couple of times and from those experiences came a general fear of dogs, which lasted many years, but faded away during puberty, after I got used to being with dogs: first my best friend's dog and then my own...
Phobias? none that I know of =)

  2. well...do I have to tell you the truth?? I have a terrible problem with crickets and grasshoppers, don't laugh!! jeje I hate them, I don't know why. I think the way they "jump" terrifies me. I always remember that my grandmother used to encourage me to catch them, but it was stronger than me, I couldn't! Nowadays I don't even try.
Anyway, I don't think it is a phobia.
    see us!

  3. Belén, crickets and grasshoppers seem harmless but that's the thing with fears and phobias. Many times we can't explain why something bothers us! Last Summer must have been very bad for you then, with all the crickets we had everywhere!!
Nacho, so glad you overcame your fear of dogs! They are wonderful creatures.
    See you in class today!

  4. Hi again!
Well, when I was 12, I was watching a movie one saturday night while my mother was sleeping in her room when all of a sudden there was a black out. I started screaming and crying. I don't know why I was so scared. I think it's not a phobia but I know that I really hate darkness. I'm still afraid of that!!
I also feel disgust when I see a toad or a frog I start feeling I'm going to faint. I know they are inoffensive creatures but I can't stand being near them.
Anyway, I will never ever touch a frog in my life! lol

    See ya...

  5. Hi people! Well, this topic is very interesting and I have one anecdote to share with you about it.
One summer week night I stayed awake till 3 o’clock chatting with my friend Anita. When I arrived home, I didn’t want to make any noise so as not to wake my parents up…so, I entered my house and made all the way to my room in complete darkness.
Once inside my room I stopped in order to turn on the lights and suddenly, “something” touched my right foot. Then, I found the light… AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I shriek with terror!! There “she” was…standing elegantly next to my foot…a disgusting big (very big in my opinion!), grey and orange, heary SPIDER! I jumped onto my bed and looked at it…I was paralyzed! However, I knew I had to kill it because I didn’t want THAT THING inside my room…after that, I look for my “Black Raid”!!

    Unforgettable!

All this was to introduce my fear to spiders. I cannot help it, I sweat and feel strange sensations in my stomach when in front of them; spiders (the black and big ones) are disgusting creatures on earth! Don’t you think so?

  6. Hi everybody!
Well, this is a great topic! I can write about it all day long as I am afraid of a lot of things since I was a little girl. Darkness, horror movies, height and spiders!!! Uhhh, I just think about this, and my hands sweat.
I can´t say I´ve overcome all my fears because this is not true. But I think it´s ok if we live with them as, sometimes, I feel that a little bit of adrenaline is just what I need. For instance, I love watching horror movies as they make me feel excited, but once I switch the lights on… Well, this is other story.
    See you soon.

  7. Well, I don't think I suffer from any phobia right now, maybe just fears, which is perfectly normal. But I do remember that I was really shy some years ago and I didn't want to raise my hand to speak in the classroom. When I was asked my opinion I got pretty nervous and I felt my limbs become weaker and weaker. Fortunately, that's not a problem to me anymore. I think I've progressed in confronting some of my own fears. Now, when somebody says something I consider offensive or just erroneous, I just say it. That'a a big step, isn't it?

  8. Hello!!!
I love this topic...Why? Because I consider myself as a fearful person. ja ja
When I was a little child I was frightened of big balloons, clowns and fireworks. So, as you can imagine, the celebrations of a new year, Christmas and birthdays were very chaotic for me during some years of my chilhood. As I grew older I changed my list of fears. Now,I feel different sensations in my stomach when I see a frog, during a storm or when I have to take an exam.
    Please!!! Don´t laugh at me!!!
    See you!!! Luci...

  9. I don´t have phobias. However, I fear things such as poverty, loneliness and I fear a lot to be in jail.
    I don´t know what else.
    see you.

  10. Isn't this interesting?!!! Everybody has different fears but it seems spiders and frogs are first in the list. Spiders are kind of creepy creatures, aren't they?
Well, here's my funny fear: I am afraid of driving in the mud. I fear getting stuck, or what is worse, going off the road. I believe I know where it comes from. I was a little child and was waiting for my dad to come home after a rainy morning. I was standing outside of my house and suddenly, I saw my father's car going from one side of the road to the other (no asphalt of course!)and getting stuck in the ditch. I remember crying with anguish because I thought my beloved father was going to die there!!! I can drive in the sand, which is kind of similar, but I just hate driving in muddy terrain. I guess I couldn't happily take part in a rally!! je je!!

  11. Hello everybody!! I`ve always been afraid of spiders (big ones) and frogs. Whenever I see one of them I shout: “Arieeeeel! (my husband`s name) there`s a spider in the kitchen!! Kill her please!!!”. Yes, I now I`m not a little child to react like that, but I can´t help it. Jejje! So, imagine when my husband is not at home! Well, in those cases I try to kill the insect closing my eyes.....and if I manage to do away with it, I feel a huge relief! JEje

  12. Hi!, I don't think I have any phobia, though I have some fears, but when I was about eight, I watched IT (el payaso asesino, I don't know the name in english), and I was really scared of clowns, but now, I don't consider myself someone who fears a lot. I like being scared sometimes, so maybe if I fear something, I'll probably do, or face that thing that scares me...
    See you!.
