  1. Reading:
    1) Who do you think is getting the least/most satisfaction out of their job? justify your answer.
    2) Which of these jobs appeals to you the most/least?

    Answers:
    1) I think that from all the jobs, the one who is getting the least satisfaction, from my point of view, is The air stewardess, since she has to wake up really early and always be "presentable", she can not always just be herself. Besides, although she has to look "perfect", her job isn't pleasant at all. She has to pick up litter and restock the range of toiletries laid out in the toilet.
On the other hand, the one who is getting the most satisfaction, I think, is The miller, since, although he could be working somewhere else and earning more money, he enjoys his job so much, he doesn't seem to need those things, which I think is admirable.
    2) The job which appeals to me the most is The art dealer, because I like dealing with the public, and the idea of it being a personal buisness. I prefer doing things for myself rather than having things done for me.
The one who appeals to me the least is The furniture maker, since I'm not good with my hands and I'm not very creative.

  2. I think Dennis Young is getting the most satisfaction out of his work. He has travelled around the world to acquire appropiate espertise and he has won many prizes. Besides, it really seems that Dennis is very fond of his job and he does not fin so much disadvantages while doing it. On the other hand, I believe Joanne is getting the least satisfaction out of her work. She does not seem so fond of it since she “talks” too much about the drawbacks of her work routine. Besides, I consider she does not feel enthusiastic at all.

I think that I would be a terrible furniture maker. I’m neither creative nor “good with my hands”. For this kind of job you need to be patient while manipulating objects, and I want everything to be done quickly, to be finished now, so...IMPOSSIBLE! But, as I’m very patient with people I consider myself capable of being a good air stewardess. I hate the jobs in which you have to wake up every morning at the same time and you also have to be eight hours in front of a computer. That’s definitely not for me!! Besides, if you are an air stewardess you will visit a lot of wonderful places. You are always in contact with people who have different cultures and I like experiencing new things.

  3. I would say that the one who is getting the most satisfaction out of his job is Young because he has travelled all around the world in order to get some experiences related to his job and he makes a living by doing what he likes.
On the other side, the one who gets the least satisfaction out of his life is the miller becasue he has to work all day long every single day of a year and he can´t spend all the money he get travelling or doing whatever he likes in his spare-time.

    2) From my point of view, I would really enjoy being an art dealer. However, I don´t know anything of art, but I like travelling in order to anylize some pieces of work.
Nevertheless, I can´t imagine myself being a furniture maker. I have no ability using my hands.

1- Who do you think is getting the most/least satisfaction out of their jobs? Justify your answers.
2- Which of these jobs appeals to you the most and the least?

1- I consider Joanne, the stewardess, is getting the least satisfaction out of her job because her image is essential and she has to reflect self-confidence so as to calm down and take care of the passengers. Despite her good image, she has to tidy the seats, check everything is placed in the correct position, and watch for toiletries laid out in the toilet. Disgusting!
In my opinion, the furniture maker is getting the most satisfaction out of his job because he is not just a carpenter, he considers himself a woodworker, an artist, in simple words. Dennis Young enjoys his job and had made a lot of journeys so as to gain more knowledge and develop better techniques.

2- The job which appeals most to me is the art dealer because I really like works of art, especially paintings. It would be very interesting to have the opportunity to sell those marvellous things at considerable (and high) prices. Moreover, I believe this kind of job implies having a great sensibility so as to focus the attention on the inner meaning of every work, and I think I understand it or try to deduce it at least, ha-ha!
I would not like to be an air stewardess as I am not very fond of flying…I don’t know what I am going to do if I need to fly in the future…?¿?¿

  5. p. 114- Discuss these questions:

    1. Who do you think is getting the most/least satisfaction out of their job?
To my way of thinking, the one who is getting the least satisfaction out of her job is Joanne, the air stewardess. It goes without saying that she has a demanding and stressful job, because, as she says, she needs to be friendly and nice with people and also has to look well-groomed, clean and tidy all the time. Besides, in my view, this job is very hard for women who have their own families. Once, I listened to a woman who worked as an air stewardess. She was married and had a little boy. The woman explained that as she had to spend a lot of weeks flying, it was difficult to see her kid frequently. As a result, she missed her child very much, and felt sad when because of a delay in a flight she had to wait more time to arrive home. On the other hand, I think that Nigel Moon, the miller, really gets satisfaction out of what he does, for he is not in the business for the money, so I think he likes and enjoys his job.

    2. Which of these jobs appeals to you the most and the least?
I think thay I would never be an air stewardess because of what I said before. It wolud be too difficult for me not to see my family for days or weeks. That is why, that is the job that appeals to me the least.
However, despite the fact that it seems to be a job for men, I would be a furniture maker. I really like using my imagination in creating things, even though it sometimes takes me a lot of time to find a creative idea!

  6. 1-From my point of view, who gets the most satisfaction out of his job is the furniture maker because he can see the results of his work through material objects and because he is considered an artist.
Who gets the least satisfaction out of her job is the air stewardess because she has to work long hours and all the time she has irregular hours in her job.
2-The job which appeals to me the most is the air stewardess because I would like to know different countries and talk to people who speak other languages. I am also very patient with people.
The job which appeals to me the least is to be a miller because I do not like to be dirty all the time. He also has to work very hard and perhaps he cannot enjoy the results of his work.

  9. 1-I think that Dennis Young is getting the most satisfaction out of his job since he has had the opportunity to travel around the world so as to get experince and learn more about his beautiful job. Moreover, he has earned a very good reputation as a furniture maker because of his unique working techniques.
For me, the air stewardess is the one who is getting the least satisfaction out of her job as she has to get up early in the morning in order to make herself "presentable" for her job which is very important. Sometimes, Joanne has no time for a meal. In addition, she is the responsible for the tidiness of the bathroom and seats.

2-I would enjoy being an air stewardess because I like being in contact with people as well as knowing new ones.
Never in my life I would think about being a furniture maker since I am not good at using my hands.

  10. 5.1 Who do you think is getting the most/least satisfaction out of their job?

Although the furniture maker had problems with his clients in California, he moved in order to keep the essence of his artistic work. That’s why I think he’s the one that enjoys his work the most. Instead, the air stewardess seems to be pretty tired of waking up at the early hours, stand bossy cabin staff and waste so much time in making herself presentable for the passengers.

5.1 Which of these jobs appeals to you the most and the least?

I wouldn’t like to be an art dealer, because it would be the same as being the owner of a store. This implies to lie almost all of the time if you want people to buy what you sell. I know it because I sometimes help my mother in her clothes shop, and you have to answer “Yes! Of course it looks great on you! And it’s the latest fashion!” when you really don’t care at all. But I certainly would like to be a furniture maker, or at least I will like to know how to carve wood and make as magnificent works of art as these man does.

1-From my point of view, the person who is more satisfied with his job is Dennis, the furniture maker. As you read you can notice that what he really enjoys doing his job, even though it requires a lot of time.
I think that the one eho is disatisfied with her job is Joanne, the stewardess. She explains that she has to work a lot and sometimes she doesn't have time to rest. She also says that she has to deal with different people and of course, different personalities, which sometimes can be stressing.
2- The job that appeals me the most is the art gallery owner. I think that it is a very interesting and entertaing job despite the hours of work. I also like art, and from all the other jobs I guess I would feel more comfortable working in an art gallery.

  12. Sofi Calvinho: Good points! It seems that to be an art dealer and have a business of your own would suit you!
Remember that in English you say that someone has to GET UP early.

  13. Belén, it sounds like you would enjoy having irregular working hours, which is something not many people would like! I guess that travelling to different parts makes the job of an air hostess more interesting. I would like that part definitely!

  14. Well... you can always learn about art or about anything. The important thing about a job is that you enjoy what the job implies. How about a teacher's job? Do you think you will like it?

    ResponderEliminar
  15. Yes Celina! It seems the furniture maker has made a lot of trips and certainly enjoys his job! I share your interest in art and I agree with you on the fact that to deal with beautiful objects must be something very pleasant.
If you ever have to fly... I'm sure you will overcome your fear! Once you have been on a plane you realize it's usually not unpleasant!

  16. Hey Sofia (Galoppo)! I would also like to be able enough with my hands and with my brain to be able to work with wood and make my own furniture. We should take a course!!! je je
I agree with you also on the fact that being an airstewardess is very hard on women who want to bring up a family. On the other hand, being a teacher is a good profession for that matter!

  17. Candela, wouldn't it be nice to travel and see different countries? Yes! Well, who knows? You can also travel as an English teacher and teach somewhere else. Have you thought about that possibility?

  18. Lucila: so you like meeting people? Yes, I guess that working as an airstewardess would give you that chance but if you like getting to know people really well, that's not a good choice. Being a teacher is better for that matter, as you meet new students every year and if you are willing to get close to them, it may be a wonderful experience.

  19. Gigi, so you lie!!!! je je!!! What you say is absolutely true and mainly when you are buying clothes!
You knwo what? I would also like to be skillful with wood! In fact, I'm thinking about taking a course whenever I get more time to devote to trying new things in life! I will let you know if I ever do it and may be you can join!
