    2) What other carrers have you considered?
I have considered philosophy and sociology.
    3) to what extent has chance or good luck played a part?
I don't think it has to do with chance or good luck, It was more about getting to know myself and making a decision.

  2. I always knew I wanted to be an English Teacher. I loved the way my teachers delivered their lessons and I always considered English a “different” and interesting subject. Besides, I like working with people.
I have not considered other careers but I like Medicine a lot.
I do not really think chance or good luck has played a part.
I would recommend for people with these certain qualities the following jobs:
Numerate, computer-literate, meticulous: accounter, secretary, computer programmer, architec, bussiness person.
Patient, caring, physically fit: Personnal trainer, nurse, and without considering “physically fit”...a teacher.
Articulate, outgoing, persuasive: salesperson, tour guide.

    a) I don´t know (cuek)

  4. I really like English as a language to study, but to tell you the truth, when I started to study at the Teacher Training College I did not wanted to be a “teacher”. After 2 years of studying it and having the opportunity to teach some adolescents, I realized how much I liked teaching English! I think that is very important to know how to explain what we know, and studying to become a teacher is helping me to achieve those “tools” required so as to express my knowledge of the language to others.

Actually, before deciding to study English I was about to travel and study Medicine in Santa Fe. Thank God, I became aware that theory in itself and not the practise of medicine was what I really liked. That’s the reason why I stayed and began studying English (the language, and subject) I love the most!

I don’t think that things happened because of good luck or by chance. In fact, I believe things had to be like this.

I would recommend the following jobs for the people with these qualities:

    • numerate, computer-literate, meticulous: a computer programmer, a math teacher
    • patient, caring, physically fit: kindergarten and primary teachers, a dancer
    • articulate, outgoing, persuasive: seller, secretary, teachers in general ha-ha!

Guys! I'm glad to read your stories (when you decided to study English) because I haven't listened to them before! great!

  5. p. 117- Discuss these questions

    1. I´ve chosen this career because I love English and its culture. Besides, I really like teaching, especially a foreign language for we can use a lot of interesting tools and speak about a lot of different topics with our students. That is why I find it interesting and funny to be a teacher of English.

    2. I´ve considered to be an architect or interpreter as well.

    3. In my case, I consider myself lucky because I don´t have to travel to study this career. Otherwise, it would be impossible for I`m married and have two little kids.

    4. numerate, computer-literate, meticulous: Ingineer, Programmer, Accountant

patient, caring, physically fit: Teacher, Doctor

    articulate, outgoing, persuasive: Shop Assistant

  8. 3.1 What has influenced your choice of your actual or potential career?

Well, I decided I was going to leave informatics engineering and I had to choose something before telling my parents. I knew I was good at foreign languages, so I decided to talk to a friend’s cousin who was about to finish studying English in the ISP. She patiently explained to me what this career was about, and she did it so well and with such enthusiasm that I thought “it may be the place for me…” And it is!!

3.2 What other careers have you considered?

Millions!! Haha, here are the ones I remember: vet, archaeology, palaeontology, Egyptology!!!!!!!! Hahahah (I watched too much discovery channel when I was a kid) history teacher, announcer, fine arts, sociology, political science, literature, anthropology, music and (this I did it for two years) informatics engineering!!!!! :s I’m still thinking of pursuing some of them in a not-so-distant future. :D

3.3 To what extent has chance or good luck played a part?

I think I was lucky to know an English student to ask all my doubts beforehand. It gave me certain security in the middle of the uncertainty that changing a career involves.

3.4 What jobs would you recommend to somebody who tends to be…

    - numerate, computer-literate, meticulous? Accountant, secretary.
    - patient, caring, physically fit? Bodyguard, PE teacher.
    - articulate, outgoing, persuasive? Salesperson, tour or museum guide .
